1. Smeg BCC02

This sleek compact and striking machine, created by Milan-based firm Deep Design combines the brand's retro style with cutting edge technology. It is able to handle every step of the coffee-making process - from grinding beans and then tamping the beans into a puck to texturing milk and dispensing the right amount - so you can create barista-quality hot beverages by pressing a button.

The machine is also available in red, black or taupe. It can easily be incorporated into any kitchen style. The machine is not without faults however. Many reviewers felt that it was quite expensive for a cup to bean maker (and it doesn't come with the milk pitcher).

There were also plenty of glowing reviews about the quality of the coffee as well as the ease of using this machine. The digital display is intuitive and provides the step-by-step instructions and feedback throughout the entire brewing process, helping you perfect your drink every time. It even allows you to adjust the grind size if it's not enough. It's almost like having your own personal home barista (minus Harry Potter's invisibility cloak and Elon Musk's rocket-building expertise).

This model is perfect for those who like milky drinks. The steam wand is adjustable upwards and downwards to fit a variety of drinking vessels, except Viking drinking horns. We were also awed by the speed and efficiency with the way that the frothing was performed. It also produces an amazing espresso with a great crema and full flavour despite its compact size.

The BCC02 is a fantastic all-rounder that's quiet, efficient and provides great value for money, especially at its current price of PS499. Its only real drawback is that it doesn't provide the same degree of customization as other bean-to-cups we've tested. It comes with a 15 bar pump rather than the more typical 19 bars, which isn't as good to make high-quality espressos. However it's a fantastic bean-to-cup machine for those who like their coffee strong and dark. Click here to view Lavazza's great deal.

The price tag may be a worry for some. It's not cheap, costing nearly PS999. However, it's cheaper than comparable Jura machines with the same features.

It's a sign of confidence on behalf of the manufacturer. It also includes an cleaning tablet as well as a descaler, making it easy to keep on top of the machine's maintenance requirements.
